Baby Seal Breaks Into Home

Baby Seal Breaks Into Home

Pipe and flippers, sir? Seal makes himself comfy on the sofa (after getting in through the cat flap)

A cheeky baby seal wriggled through the cat flap of a house before making himself comfy on the sofa.

The stunned owner of the house, Annette Swoffer, thought she was hallucinating when she found the pup in her kitchen, hanging out with her cats.

It had made its way from the waterfront at Welcome Bay, New Zealand, through residential streets, across a busy road, and up some steps.
'I was in my office and I heard an awful racket down below,' Miss Swoffer tolf the Bay Of Plenty Times.

'I thought the cats have brought a rabbit or something in so I went down and had a look - and there's a seal in my kitchen.

'I thought "I'm hallucinating, this is just wrong".

'I'm looking and I'm definitely seeing flippers and not paws.'

Miss Swoffer called the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - who struggled to believe her at first.

'They were giggling away and I'm saying "I'm not drunk, I'm not lying, there's a seal in my house",' said Miss Swoffer.

  •  Clouds over top of city lights made car park look like flat body of water
Thousands of migratory birds died on impact after apparently mistaking a Wal-Mart car park and other areas for bodies of water and plummeting to the ground.

Crews went to work cleaning up the dead birds and rescuing the survivors after the creatures crash-landed in St. George, Utah, in what one wildlife expert called the worst downing she's ever seen.

The crash happened on Monday night and by midday Wednesday, volunteers had helped rescue more than 3,000 birds, releasing them into nearby bodies of water.

'Gay' Penguins Baby Chick

'Gay' Penguins Baby Chick

Chinese zookeepers give gay penguin couple a chick. Two gay penguins in China have been given a baby chick by zoo staff.

The infant penguin is one of twins born to parents in the Harbin Polar Land aquarium in China.

The Metro reports that the gay penguins are often caught stealing others’ eggs during mating season, and the museum staff are confident they can raise a chick between them.

The twins were reportedly separated in order to give both the best chance of survival.

The Chinese penguins’ story echoes that of Roy and Silo, penguins at New York’s Central Park Zoo, who were given a rejected egg by keepers after they continually attempted to hatch a rock.

Kennel Club suspends testing dogs for banned substances amid widespread 'cheating'
Kennel Club suspends testing dogs for banned substances amid widespread 'cheating' The Kennel Club has suspended random testing of dogs for banned substances – such as hairspray – following a revolt by owners who say some of the practices are endemic and do not represent cheating.

With sports governing bodies clamping down on cheats using performance-enhancing substances, this was the canine equivalent.

In a battle against the use of hairspray and other grooming products to enhance the appearance of dogs at its shows, the Kennel Club introduced random laboratory testing for banned substances at its flagship Crufts event this year.

Puppy swallows flag pole

Puppy swallows flag pole

Puppy swallows flag pole. Barking glad: Puppy swallows metal pole... but after 90-minute surgery he's wagging his tail again.
Dogs are always putting things in their mouths, whether it's tugging on a slipper or carrying around a newspaper.

But to pick up a 15in metal garden flag post and then swallow it takes some doing.

Blue, an eight-week-old grey pit bull who lives with his owners in Mobile, Alabama, managed to do just that.

Here's a clever dog whose balancing act really takes the biscuit

Here's a clever dog whose balancing act really takes the biscuit. Can I have one yet? The dog sits amazingly still as a pile of dog biscuits is constructed on his nose.
With his hang dog look, you could be forgiven for thinking this poor mutt is desperate for some lunch.

And with a pile of dog biscuits balanced precariously on his nose, it looks like pure torture for the poor pooch.

But this well-behaved pet, from the U.S., has been specially trained to pose near motionless as stacks of his favourite snack are perched on top of him.

Shhh... let sleeping dogs lie

Sleeping dogs lie: This cute pup fell asleep in a wicker basket. After a busy day spent trying to catch their own tail, the cat next door or the postman, sometimes there's nothing else a puppy wants to catch but 40 winks.
And as these pictures show, it really is a good thing to let sleeping dogs die.
