Knut to be stuffed and displayed?
Popular Polar Bear Knut to Be Stuffed, Displayed in BerlinFollowing the shockingly early death of Knut, the world's best known polar bear, a Berlin museum plans to stuff the celebrity and put him on display, letting fans say their final farewells.
The news came Tuesday as a team of veterinarians decided that brain problems were probably the cause of the four-year-old bear's death. Three vets took part in the examination of the 300kg (661lb) animal, and were accompanied by a taxidermist to ensure that Knut's fur was not damaged in the process.
Initial findings from a necropsy performed Monday by an institute in the German capital showed "significant changes to the brain, which can be viewed as a reason for the polar bear's sudden death," the zoo said in a statement.
The zoo didn't elaborate on the changes to the animal's brain, and officials could not immediately be reached for further comment.
