Transgender kid joins Girl Scouts

Transgender kid joins Girl Scouts, A 7-Year-Old Boy Is Allowed to Become a Girl Scout -- We Love It! Today, I am very proud to say I wore the beanie and the sash and peddled those delicious cookies as a Girl Scout. That's because I learned that a 7-year-old boy named Bobby Montoya has been welcomed into his local Colorado troop. Bobby is a "gender-variant" boy who identifies as a girl -- he loves Barbies and Bratz dolls and, as he puts it, "any girl stuff." He also has long hair and often dresses like a girl as well.

At first, he was turned away, according to a KUSA-TV report. The troop leader told Bobby’s mom, Felisha Archuleta, that the Girl Scouts didn’t allow boys and that she didn’t want to get in trouble with other parents or her supervisor. Watch the report now:

Turns out, she had nothing to worry about. Once the Girl Scouts of Colorado got wind of the situation they very clearly said: Join! We’d love to have you! Their exact words: "Girl Scouts is an inclusive organization...If a child identifies as a girl and the child's family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout.” Apparently, the group has been getting an increasing number of requests from families of transgender kids and stated that they are "working to best support these children, their families and the volunteers who serve them." bobby montoya allowed girl scouts, Colorado, United States, bobby montoya, transgender rejected boy parts,

To that I say Bravo! (Hey, Boy Scouts? Are you listening?) Here’s a suggestion: Call it Scouts and let any teasing or BS that comes with a boy who wants to join be gone. I mean, who doesn’t want to make s’mores and sing songs? PS: Is it totally corny that the scout classic “Make New Friends” has been stuck in my head ever since I heard about Bobby?
