Harry Belafonte falls asleep

Harry Belafonte falls asleep
Harry Belafonte falls asleep, Harry Belafonte is such an elegant, dignified and well-respected star that we can't help but feel a little ashamed for giggling at this clip of the actor.

A video is flying around the Web showing Belafonte fast asleep meditating during what was supposed to be a live interview with a Bakersfield, California, television station. Update, 3:58 p.m.: According to Belafonte's rep, the actor wasn't sleeping, he was meditating.

The rep says in a statement, “After weeks of literally hundreds of interviews promoting his HBO documentary, memoir and CD, Mr. Belafonte had an early morning satellite TV tour this past Friday. True to form, there was a technical glitch in the feed to a local station in Bakersfield, California. His earpiece wasn’t working, so he decided to take the time to meditate before the rest of his Day-O. Mr. Belafonte is 84 years young, but sharper and more awake than most who have been interviewing him. Maybe the world would be a better place if more people took a moment to meditate.”

It seemed at first that daylight may have come a bit early for Belafonte (and he wanna go home) as he joined KBAK to promote his new memoir "My Song." When they threw to the 84-year-old singer and actor, he was on set, but unresponsive.

"Wake up, wake up," the anchor tried to prompt Belafonte. "This is your wake-up call."

To be fair, the morning crew pointed out that the octogenarian may have been tuckered out from multiple interviews.
