First date for Florida teenagers ends in jail

First date for Florida teenagers ends in jail
First date for Florida teenagers ends in jail, Vero Beach couple’s first date ends in arrest after dine-and-dash attempt. First dates can be awkward, but this one went particularly poorly, ending with a couple of trips to jail.

A manager at T.G.I. Friday’s at the Indian River Mall told a sheriff’s deputy Oct. 5 he saw people identified as Devin Norling, 18, and 19-year-old Sydney Sanders on the patio, according to recently released affidavits.

Sanders, he said, told him it was their first date.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether it would be their last following their arrests and stints behind bars in the Indian River County jail.

The date appeared to begin unraveling when Norling and Sanders were spotted running through a parking lot toward Wendy’s. A detective was told they’d pulled a “dine and dash,” skipping out on a $25.16 food bill at T.G.I. Friday’s. couple arrested on first date,

The manager said that after the meal was consumed, Sanders left the patio and walked toward Macy’s. The manager said Norling asked where the bathroom was. After leaving the restroom, Norling walked in a back room and tried to leave via a fire exit but the alarm sounded, the manager said.

The manager said he directed Norling to the patio and re-set the alarm. He said a waitress gave Norling the bill and that Norling was seen “opening up his wallet and taking out nothing and putting the wallet back inside of his pocket.” The manager said Norling eventually hopped over the patio gate and ran toward Macy’s.

The two were apprehended, and investigators found a pipe with marijuana residue in Sanders’ purse.

Norling said he was “basically homeless and had nothing to eat for a couple a days.”

Although Sanders, of the 1100 block of 36th Avenue in Vero Beach, apparently told the T.G.I. Friday’s manager it was the couple’s first date, she declined to speak with Indian River County Sheriff’s investigators.

Norling, of the 200 block of 30th Avenue in Vero Beach, said he ordered the food and left without paying.

Affidavits didn’t detail the food ordered from T.G.I. Friday’s.
