Harold Camping and his 'doomsday' prediction. The U.S. evangelical broadcaster predicting that Judgment Day will come on Saturday says he expects to stay close to a TV or radio to monitor the unfolding apocalypse.

Harold Camping, 89, previously made a failed prediction that Jesus Chris would return to Earth in 1994.

But the head of the Christian radio network Family Stations Inc says he is sure an earthquake will shake the Earth on May 21, sweeping true believers to heaven and leaving others behind to be engulfed in the world's destruction over a few months.

Snakes on a plane: Smugglers arrested with 40 pythons in their hand luggage
Two men were arrested trying to smuggle 40 snakes onto a plane in their hand luggage yesterday.

They were stopped after airport security officials in Jakarta found the animals when the bags were passed through security scanners

Although the reticulated pythons were sedated, officers still said the reptiles could have caused terror on the flight from Jakarta to Dubai if released - especially among any passengers who had seen Samuel L Jackson film Snakes on a Plane.

Reticulated pythons are not poisonous and kill their prey by squeezing them to death, although a few cases of them killing humans have been reported.

The arrested men, Yaqub Ebrahim and Ali Hasan, are thought to have been trying to smuggle the animals to the United Arab Emirates where they would have been sold.

The pair are said to have told officers that they had been promised a large sum of money for the snakes by the collectors in the United Arab Emirates.

Samuel Curtis Johnson III, a billionaire member of the family that runs the SC Johnson & Son household products company, has been charged with repeated sexual assault of a child, officials said on Friday.

The child is now 15, and the alleged assault went on for "several years," according to Racine County District Attorney Michael Nieskes.

In the criminal complaint, the victim identified her abuser as her stepfather, Nieskes said.

Johnson, 55, of Racine, Wisc., has been released on a $500,000 bond. A hearing was to be held in Racine on Friday to determine whether certain redacted portions of the criminal complaint will be made public, Nieskes said.

The charge involves 10 to 15 separate incidents. If convicted, Johnson could serve up to 40 years in prison.

NYC Subway Fistfight Erupts Over Woman Eating Spaghetti
A woman on a New York City subway train, enjoying some take-out spaghetti, was harassed by another passenger who thought it ill-mannered to dine in an underground train car. Someone began videoing mid-argument. It’s difficult to hear the video, but here is roughly what happened:

“What kind of animals eat on the train like that?” says the woman across the aisle.

The diner snaps back with an epithet, and the exchange quickly degenerates into a fistfight.

“Chill out!” shouts a man as he tries to pull apart the two combatants…

Some New York commuters called for a subway system ban on food, like the ones enforced in Washington, San Francisco and other cities. The Port Authority Trans-Hudson trains, which run between New York and New Jersey, already prohibit eating.

1 in 6 in US is Hispanic

New milestone: 1 in 6 in US is Hispanic

WASHINGTON — In a surprising show of growth, Hispanics accounted for more than half of the U.S. population increase over the last decade, exceeding estimates in most states. Pulled by migration to the Sun Belt, America's population center edged westward on a historic path to leave the Midwest.
The Census Bureau on Thursday will release its first set of national-level findings from the 2010 count on race and migration, detailing a decade in which rapid minority growth, aging whites and increased suburbanization were the predominant story lines. Geographers estimate that the nation's population center will move southwest about 30 miles and be placed in or near the village of Plato in Texas County, Mo.

"There is excitement," said Brad Gentry, 48, of Houston, Mo., who publishes the weekly paper in Texas County, noting that the U.S. population center typically carries symbolic meaning as the nation's heartland. "It is putting a spotlight on a corner of the world that doesn't get much attention. Most residents are proud of our region and like the idea that others will learn our story through this recognition."
Racial and ethnic minorities are expected to make up an unprecedented 90 percent of the total U.S. growth since 2000, due to immigration and higher birth rates for Latinos. Currently the fastest growing group, Hispanics are on track to exceed 50 million, or roughly 1 in 6 Americans; among U.S. children, Hispanics are now roughly 1 in 4.

Woman Grandson Found Under Rubble in Japan
TOKYO — An 80-year-old woman and her teenage grandson were rescued Sunday in northeastern Japan when the youth was able to pull himself out of their flattened two-story house nine days after the devastating earthquake and tsunami.

Jin Abe, 16, was seen calling out for help from the roof of the collapsed home in the hard-hit city of Ishinomaki, according to the Miyagi Prefectural Police. Like other homes in northeastern Japan, they had lost electricity and telephone service in the March 11 earthquake.

He led them inside to his 80-year-old grandmother, Sumi Abe. Both were conscious but weak, and had survived on the food they had in their refrigerator, said Shizuo Kawamura of the Ishinomaki police department.

The woman could not get out of the house because she has trouble walking, and the teenager, who was suffering from a low body temperature, had been unable until Sunday to pull himself from the wreckage, Kawamura told The Associated Press by telephone.

Jaime Pressly Worried About Image

Jaime Pressly Worried About Image
Actress Jaime Pressly has recently admitted that she is concerned about her image as a professional after a DUI arrest earlier this year. Pressly was allegedly driving erratically when she was pulled over by Santa Monica police officers. Pressly was arrested on suspicion of a DUI after she failed a field sobriety test.
Pressly’s attorney, Rich Hutton, told PEOPLE Magazine that the starlet believes the arrest was “unjustified,” and fears that the charge will have a negative affect on her image, as it “does not represent who she is.” Hutton has said that Pressly remains in good spirits despite the charges and her pending divorce.
She is scheduled to appear in court in early May.

This mother thought her son had a fighting chance

This mother thought her son had a fighting chance
They left my baby to die in my arms: This mother thought her son had a fighting chance when he was born at 22 weeks... but the hospital staff refused to help him
Holding her newborn son Tom for the first time, Tracy Godwin marvelled at his eyelashes, and counted every precious finger and toe.

After the drama of his arrival at just 22 weeks, she knew she had a little fighter in her arms.

But at a mere one pound, and battling to breathe, he would need all the help he could get. That help never came.

Forty-six minutes later, and despite her desperate pleas to midwives for assistance, Miss Godwin’s son died as she held him.

She has since been told that the hospital has a policy not to resuscitate babies born earlier than 24 weeks into pregnancy.

Yesterday Miss Godwin, who visits her little boy’s grave every day, told how she is haunted by fears she and her partner didn’t do enough to help their baby when the medics around her refused.

‘They put him in my arms and he cried and was wriggling around. I could feel him breathing and see his eyelashes and fingers and toes,’ she said.

‘But I kept thinking, “Where’s the incubator?” We were begging the midwives to do something to help him but no one was saying anything. He was not stillborn, he was trying to live.
