If Tim Tebow can’t find a quarterback gig with an NFL team this year, the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League have opened their doors for the Florida native.
Predators owner Brett Bouchy told the Orlando Sentinel this weekend he would be pleased to bring in Tebow if he’s not signed in the offseason. Tebow is likely to be released by the Jets if they can’t trade him at the NFL meetings, which began yesterday in Palm Beach, Fla.
“Tim would certainly want to first exhaust his opportunities in the NFL, but we’d love to have him,” Bouchy said. “I think he would definitely improve as a quarterback in our league. Kurt Warner told me once that when he got back to the NFL after playing in the Arena League, the NFL game was like slow motion. Everything in the Arena League is just so much faster and quicker and predicated on accuracy. Whenever Tim is willing, we have a contract waiting for him to sign.”
There were reports during the season the Jaguars were interested in picking up Tebow, but they have backed off. New Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said he has been thinking of ideas to better utilize the run-first quarterback, but that’s likely just lip service.
The Jets have Mark Sanchez, Greg McElroy and newly signed David Garrard in the fold now, plus Matt Simms, who will be invited to camp.
Tebow attempted just eight passes this season and completed six for 39 yards while rushing 32 times for 102 yards. He is obviously the odd-man out, but at least he has something to fall back on if he’s not in the NFL.
